Josephine was born on Aug. 3, 1918, in Lowell, Vt., the daughter of Lewis and Anna (King) Greene. She was married to Clayton Elkins, who died on Aug. 26, 1990.
In her earlier years, Josephine worked in the Forrest Hills Factory Outlet in Winooski. She was a communicant of St. Isidore's Parish in Montgomery Center.
Josephine is survived by a son and his wife, Michael and Margaret "Maggie" Elkins of Montgomery; three daughters and their husbands, Maxine and Warren Farrar of Richford, Janice and James Adams of Fairfield, and Deanna and Roger Carr of Berkshire; two brothers, Joseph Greene of Winooski and William "Bill" Greene of Enosburg Falls; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Josephine was predeceased by four siblings, Clara Wetherby of Winchester, N.H., Peter Greene, Glendon Greene, and Oressa Greene.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, at 11 a.m. at St. Isidore's Catholic Church in Montgomery Center. Interment will follow in St. Isidore's Cemetery in Montgomery Center. There will be no calling hours.
