Baptized at Lydd, Kent, England 2 Dec 1582 to James & Mary (Marytine?) Bate. Husbandman from Lydd, Kent, who came to Massachusetts Bay in 1635 on the Elizabeth & settled in Dorchester. Died between 26 Niov 1655 (date of codicil) & 8 Jan 1655/6 (date of inventory).
He married Alice Glover 16 Sep 1603 in Saltwood, Kent, England. (On 13 Sep 1603, a license was issued for the marriage of "Jacobum Bate de Lyd, yeoman, and Aliciam Glover de Saltwood virg[in], " to be performed at Saltwood. She was admitted to Dorchester church about 1638, along with her daughters Lydis & Mary. She died at Dorchester on 14 Aug 1657.
