-----

Religion and Faith--
Elvina was born into the plain and simple life of her SCOTT and BOWMAN extended family. The family was of the QUAKER beliefs and followed closely in the ways of the FRIENDS manner of life and MEETINGS. Through the years, family members moved away from the QUAKER ways, for many reasons. One reason was that when they immigrated to new areas and settled into sparsely settled areas, there was not always a QUAKER group or even any kind of organized religion. Another, reason was the QUAKERs did not believe in war or violence of any kind; and this made life difficult for them during the conflicts of the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, USA Civil War, and other conflicts that came with living in early Canada and America.

-----

Marriage--
On 25 Feb 1880, in McPherson, Kansas, Elvina (age 32) was joined in marriage with Jacob Henry Stansel (age 35). There were three children from this marriage (list is work in progress)--

Alonzo William Stansel 1882 – 1921
Goss Loyd Stansel 1885 – 1959
Ella Ida Stansel Doll Bridgens 1887 – 1939

-----

Residences and Occupations--

During their marriage Elvina and spouse Jacob Henry Stansel resided in several counties in Kansas-- McPherson County, Barber County, Harper County, and Rice County. After Jacob Henry passed away, Elvina lived with her son Goss and his wife and children in Kansas.

-----

Burial---
Elvina's spouse Jacob Henry Stansel predeceased her by over 20 years. During her 93 years of life, she witnessed the conflicts and turbulence of the USA CIVIL WAR, WWI, and WWII, and their effects on her family, friends, and country. She lived a life full of years, family, friends, tears, and smiles. She was born in Ontario, Canada, into a large SCOTT and BOWMAN extended family. When her parents sold their farm and property in Canada and relocated to Kansas, Elvina (age about 30 and unmarried) moved with them. She set her roots deep into Kansas and now resides in a garden of stone and grass that has seen the passing of the years and the folks that peopled the Kansas landscape.

Elvina now lies at rest in the McPherson Cemetery with her spouse. Her parents were also laid to rest in McPherson County, but in another cemetery.

-----

SPECIAL FAMILY STORY--
In 1864, Elvina was age 17 when her youngest brother JAMES ALFRED SCOTT (my maternal first great grandfather) was born. Elvina was a big help to her mother -- even at the tender age of five -- with the care of all her younger brothers and sisters! Just imagine if you will, all the diapers she washed and changed for JAMES ALFRED SCOTT and her other siblings. Her mother had a baby about every two years for almost 25 years -- so there was always a baby or two in diapers from 1843 to about 1867!

Elvina lived at home with her parents and siblings and grandparents from her birth in 1848, until 1880, when at age 32 when she married and left to make a home with her new husband in 1880.
