He married Eliza 'Birde' Williams, daughter of Willis B. Williams and Emily Mahaffey, in Feb 1901 at probably, Buford, GA. He appeared on the census of 1920 at 143 Oak Street, Atlanta, GA. He lived circa 1922 at Capital Street, Atlanta, Fulton Co., GA; also has this address in 1926, when S B Hoyt was the informant for Birdie's mother's death certificate. He appeared on the census of 1930 at 988 Capitol Avenue SE, Atlanta, Fulton Co., GA. He died on 7 Sep 1947 at Atlanta, DeKalb Co., GA, at age 71; according to the Georgia Deaths Index, he died in DeKalb Co. Maybe that part of the city was in DeKalb and not Fulton Co. They lived on Capital Street in the 1920s. Perhaps, he died in a hospital in DeKalb. He was buried and had the following obituary which appeared in the Atlanta Constitution on September 8, 1947 page 16.

Hoyt, Misses Kittye, [sic] Winifred and Marjorie Hoyt, Mr.Thomas Hoyt, Mrs. J. M. Estes, Miss Julia Hoyt and Mrs. D. W. Wilson, Duluth, Ga., are invited to attend the funeral of Mr. Samuel B. Hoyt, Sr. this (Monday) 3:30 o'clock from the Central Presbyterian Church. Dr.Stuart R.Oglesby will officiate. The following will serve as pallbearers and please assemble at the church at 3:15 o'clock: Mr. C.E. Westbrook, Mr. T.A. Poole, Mr. H. C. McCall, Mr. Grady Vaughn, Mr. R. O. Walters, Mr. Raymond Bowden. Members of the Marshall's office of Civil Court will serve as honorary escort and assemble at the church. Lee-Roosevelt Camp USWV No. 6 will officiate at the grave. Interment
West View Cemetery. The body will be placed in state at the church at 3 o'clock.
