Miss Ruby Lois Hickox, 84 (b. 21 Oct 1912), died early Sunday morning (3 Aug 1997) at Ware Manor Nursing Home after an extended illness.

She was a native of the area that is now Brantley County, but had lived most of her life in Waycross. Her parents were the late David Jackson "Jack" Hickox and Goldie N. Griffin Hickox. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Clyde, Cecil, Monroe and Virgil Hickox.

She was a retired nurse for Dr. Penland. Prior to her employment with Dr. Penland she was a nurse for a few years at Memorial Hospital (now Satilla Regional Medical Center) in Waycross. After retirement, she became a private duty nurse. She attended the Trinity United Methodist Church in Waycross and the High Bluff Primitive Baptist Church near Schlatterville. She was also a member of the State of Georgia Nurses Association.

Survivors include a niece, Sylvia Crews of Waycross; four sisters, Margaret Moore (husband Homer) of Waycross, Mary Floyd (husband Talmadge) of Waycross, Alberta Thomas of Hoboken and Lucille Mitts (husband Don) of Hazelhurst; a brother, Lester Hickox of Waycross and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, from the chapel of Miles-Odum Funeral Home with the Rev. Andy Hickox officiating.

Interment followed in High Bluff Cemetery in Brantley County.

Miles-Odum Funeral Home of Waycross was in charge of arrangements.
