J. E. Cloud, Rule Pioneer, Buried

RULE, Sept. 15--(Spl.)--Funeral services were held from the First Baptist church Tuesday afternoon for J. E. Cloud, 74, pioeer and prominent land owner of Rule and Haskell county. He died at his home here Monday afternoon at five o'clock after an illness of several years. The services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. A. Powell.

Burial was in the Rule cemetery under direction of Gauntt's funeral home. The Masonic order of which Mr. Cloud was a member 35 years, officiated.

Mr. Cloud was born September 25, 1869 in Williamson county. He moved to Coryell county with his parents in 1883. He was married to Sallie E. Jones in that county on Sept. 9, 1891 and moved to Rule in 1900, where he has lived since. He had been a member of the Baptist church since childhood and was active in church and civic circles up until he become ill several years ago.

He is survived by his wife, three sons and three daughters. The children are E. J., H. J. and Joe W. Cloud, Mrs. J. E. Geer and Mrs. B. W. Ingram all of Rule and Mrs. C. F. Leon of Rotan. Other survivors, ten grandchildren and three sisters who are Mrs. John Roach, Abilene; Mrs. Charles Guggoiz, Gatesville and Mrs. Ambros Roach, Eldorado.

Pallbearers were Aubrey Fouts, H. G. Leon, Ollie Kittley, J. G. Smith, Ernest Baugh, O. R. Carothers, O. Cole and Olen DeLeon.

Honorary pallbeareres were A. T. Fouts, W. W. Kittley, T. K. Kevil, R., W. Cole Sr.; R. W. Cross, T. R. Denison, J. A. Davis, Oscar Gipson, Homer Chambers, E. B. Harris, S. M. Davis, Dr. J. C.
