Cassius McCracken Rogers, age 83, of 115 Arrowood Acres Road, Upper Crabtree Community, Clyde, died Sunday, March 15, 1998, at his home.
A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, Mr. Rogers was the son of the late Robert French and Bly McCracken Rogers. He was a retired farmer. After graduating from Clyde High School in 1933, he entered a long career of beef cattle and tobacco farming. Active in his church and community, Mr. Rogers served for many years as a director of the Haywood County Farmer's Cooperative, a trustee of Upper Crabtree Cemetery, a member of the Crabtree School Committee and as a trustee of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Noland Rogers.
Survivors include one son, Terry Rogers of Upper Crabtree; two brothers, G. V. Rogers of Waynesville and David Rogers of Upper Crabtree; two sisters, Hazel Chapman of Canton and Christine of Newport News, VA; and one aunt, Ethel McCracken of Waynesville.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Monday at Wells Funeral Home, Waynesville. Reverend Dr. Charles Mercer and Denis Fallon officiated. Burial was in Upper Crabtree Community Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bruce and Bill Medford, Edgar McElroy, Frank Smart, Ronnie Bradshaw and Edwin Rogers.
The family received friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m., Monday before the service. At other times, the family was at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Terry W. Rogers, 120 Arrowood Acres Road, Clyde, NC 28721.
Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville was in charge of arrangements.
