I always called her Grandma Roe. That's who she was to us, even after she remarried after the death of my Grandpa Roe.
Mary Ellen Hayes was born 11 Sep 1931 in Homoney, OK to Martin and Lillie Hayes. She was the first of four children. Her siblings were James Thomas, Joe Donald and David Martin. At some point the family moved to Turlock, CA.
She married Von Joseph Roe 23 Apr 1947 in Reno, NV. Nearly ten years after they married she gave birth to two beautiful red head twin girls, Mary Jane and Marilyn. A year later came the baby Dawna. They raised their three girls in Modesto, CA. In the same home I would later grow up in as a child.
She would later be blessed with eight grandchildren, two of whom died as babies. Six of us now have our own families in CA, WA and ID.
Late in life she married Paul Garcia of Oakdale, CA. He is still living in Oakdale.
Mary died in Jun 1993 in Oakdale, just a few days before I was to graduate from high school. At least she meet the husband of her first grandchild (my hubby).
She will be missed.
