JOHN ARMSTRONG
John Armstrong, a lifetime resident of River Sioux, Ia., passed away on January 3, 1974, at the Elmwood Nursing Home in Onawa. He had reached the age of 87 years, 5 months and 28 days. Born on July 5, 1886, at Little Sioux, he was the son of Andrew and Sarah Willix Armstrong. On October 29, 1907, he was united in marriage to Anna Anderson at Onawa, Iowa. She preceded him in death on January 1, 1961, at Little Sioux. Mr. Armstrong was a farmer, having been retired for the past 15 years, and was a member of the Little Sioux Church of Christ for 52 years. Survivors include 2 sons, Floyd of Omaha, Nebraska, and Earl of Pisgah, Iowa; one daughter, Mrs. Merle (Inez) Swain of River Sioux; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Ella Little of River Sioux. He was preceded in death by his wife, 4 brothers, 1 sister, and 2 half brothers, and 2 half sisters. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 1974, at the Church of Christ in Little Sioux with Rev. Dale Whaley officiating. Kay and Joan Roden sang a duet accompanied by Mrs. Roger Pippitt. Bearers were Francis Clark, LeRoy Clark, Herbert Clark, Wilbur McCracken, Kenneth Gee, and Jack Vipond. Interment was in the Little Sioux Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa.
