Age 37 on 1850 census and age 50 on 1860 census, so evidently born about 1810 or 1813. Apparently married 1850s to Mrs. Mary A. (Kelly) Bostwick, widow of Thomas. Perhaps the son of Timothy Quinn who died aged 80 years was buried 1878 in the Old Cemetery section (probably in same lot as John)

GUINN [sic] was interred 30 AUG 1882 (age and cause of death not reported) - Sexton Abraham ODOM. [Galer's source was the sexton's card file (an index). The original burial record, with correct surname, is transcribed below:]

Burial record from sexton says John Quinn was buried in Old Cemetery on August 30, 1882 as Resident of Columbus, Georgia (birth place, age, cause of death not reported), the sexton's name then was Abraham Odom

The Historic Linwood Cemetery book by Dolores Autry and edited by Dowd and others says this grave is in Lot 34 of Autry section i and gives the following ~~~ The Macon GA Telegraph & Messenger 9/2/1882, reprint from the Columbus GA Enquirer-Sun newspaper. . . "The funeral of Mr. John Quinn too place yesterday morning from the Catholic Church. Mr. Quinn was a remarkable man in many respects. In ante bellum days there was scarce a more influential man in Muscogee county politics than he, and he always took an active part in all elections. THere are but a few more left who came to this city as early as Mr. Quinn." Inscription on grave of wife Mary A. Quinn's grave (1826 - 1905) says "Our Aunt."

1850 census of Columbus, Muscogee County, GA, dwelling 202, household 207 says John Quinn (37 Ireland), Merchant holding real estate valued at $500; and Michael Quinn (17 Ireland), Clerk. [This is apparently Michael A. D. Quinn (1835--1884), probably John's son from a first marriage

John's wife with her father Michael Kelly, brother John Kelly, and first husband Thomas Bostwick on 1850 census of Columbus, Muscogee County, GA, dwelling 338, household 361, it says (all born in Ireland) Michael Kelly (64), holding real estate valued at $1000; Thomas Bostwick (35) Merchant holding real estate valued at $1000; [Thomas' wife:] Mary A. [Kelly] Bostwick (25); and John Kelly (20) carpenter

Mears' 1869-60 city directory for Columbus, GA p. 61 says
QUIN, John, magistrate, office in the Masonic Hall, householder on Troup Street, between Baldwin and Few street (now Third Avenue between Eighth and Seventh streets)
QUIN, John, clerk, 150 Broad Street, householder on Troup Street, between Crawford and Thomas streets (now Third Avenue, between Tenth and Ninth streets)
QUIN, Timothy, tailor on Front Street, between Crawford and Thomas streets, householder at same place (now Front Street, between Tenth and Ninth streets)

1860 census of Columbus, Muscogee County, GA, dwelling 611, household 611 ~~~ John Quinn (50 Ireland), Magistrate holding real estate valued at $14,750, personal estate not reported; Mary A. Quinn (28 Ireland);+ Francis Walls (female, 7 Pennsylvania); and Mary Brazelle (21 Ireland).

1870 census of Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia, dwelling 200, household #235 says John Quinn (58 Ireland), occupation "None," real estate valued at $17,000, personal estate valued at $300; Mary A. Quinn (44 Ireland), Keeping House; and +Frances Wall (female, 17 Pennsylvania), Going to School

A. E. Sholes' 1878 city directory for Columbus, Georgia, p. 194, shows:
QUINN, Ellen (widow of Dennis), resides at 21 Broad Street
QUINN, John, resides at 44 Troup Street [now Third Avenue]
QUINN, John, works for Eagle & Phenix Manufacturing Company, resides in Browneville, AL (the name of Browneville was changed in 1889 to Phenix City)

Nephew: Michael A. D. Quin (1835 - 1884)

From obit abstract in Autry/Dowd Linwood Cem. book: "Colonel, Acting Mayor of Columbus 1846, one of the 1st settlers of this city" Inscription says born in County Limerick, Ireland.
