Archie B. Crews, 88, died late Monday evening (Jan. 30, 2006) at Satilla Regional Medical Center. A native and life-long resident of Brantley County, he was retired from the Brantley County Road Department and was a member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where he was in the Adult II Sunday School Class. He will be remembered as a faithful and loving husband, father and grandfather.

He was a son of the late Ira J. and Neva Dixon Crews and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Gwendolyn Crews, a great-grandchild, Ashley Tiner, two sisters, Martha Lee Crews and Frances Hyers; and two brothers, Farley Crews and Reppard Crews.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mary Griffin Crews of Hoboken; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Lonnie DuBose, Joyce and Julian "Woody" Woodcock and Janice and David Zak, all of Brunswick; one son and daughter-in-law, Warren and Carolyn Crews of Brunswick; five grandchildren, Donna Jo Herrin of Waycross, Susan (Charlie) Faulk, Cassandra (Joey) Bartlett and Emily Zak, all of Brunswick, and Jennifer Zak of Statesboro; four great-grandchildren, Chad Herrin of Waycross, Heather Henrique, Harrison Faulk and Kendall Anne Faulk, all of Brunswick; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Troy Thomas of Waycross, Mattie Lou and Harry Cohen of Douglas and Thelma and Herbert Strickland of Jacksonville, Fla.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Fleming and Hilda Crews and Whitmer and Ermalene Crews, all of Hoboken, and Elzria and Jeanette Crews of Waycross; two sisters-in-law, Vannie Crews of Jacksonville, Fla., and Virginia Crews of Homerville; one brother-in-law, Bennie Hyers of Waycross; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be in High Bluff Cemetery.

Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Members of the Adult II Sunday School Class are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers and are requested to meet at the church by 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
