Raised in Haywood County, Charles graduated from Crabtree-Iron Duff High School in 1959. He entered the U.S. Army, serving honorably during the Vietnam War. He worked for Dayco for 23 years, and farmed all his life. He raised beef cattle, hay, and tobacco. He loved to tell jokes and to try to pull something on somebody when he got a chance. He was a member of Fincher's Chapel United Methodist Church. He loved his wife and family very dearly.
Left to celebrate his life of 24 years were his wife Vickie Messer Clark, his mother-in-law Mary Messer of Clyde, his daughter Cindy Pridgen and her husband James of Clyde, his brothers Robert Ray Clark and his wife Sarah of Waynesville, Ellis Clark and his wife Lib of Clyde, his sister Carolyn Sease of Clyde, and a very special grandchild Dylan Pridgen. Many nieces and nephews also survived him.
Services were held at 3 PM on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Cove Creek Baptist Church. The family received friends from 6 to 8 PM on the previous night at Garrett Funeral Home in Waynesville. The Revs. Max Smith, Kitty Crain, Gene King, and John Grasty officiated.
Burial was at the Davis Cemetery on Cove Creek. Pallbearers were Shannon Clark, David Clark, Howard Sorrells, Johnny Caldwell, James Pridgen, and Ray James.
