Mr. Ammons was a resident of Ponce De Leon. He was Baptist by faith. He was a veteran of the Armed Forces serving his country in the United States Air Force. He worked as a lineman with Florida Power for 28 years before retiring. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Mr. Ammons is preceded in death by his father and mother, three sisters, Alice, Lou and Iris and one brother, Burlene.
Mr. Ammons is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lola Byrd Ammons, of Ponce De Leon; one son, Robert L. Ammons and wife Shirley, of Apalachicola; one daughter, Wanda Elaine Pritchett and husband Rick. of Dothan, Ala. and three sisters, Velma Ward and husband Paul, and Rene Donaldson, of Ponce De Leon, and Linda Lou Shaw and husband Perry, of Georgia.
He is also survived by four grandchildren, Jessica Ammons, Ellis Ammons, Angela Harrell and husband Rickey, and Eric Pritchett and wife Bridgett; and six great-grandchildren, Machaela, Jasiah, Shanna, Steven, Alex and Brooklynn.
Visitation was held Thursday morning, May 26 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home; in DeFuniak Springs. Funeral services followed at the funeral home with Rev. Paul Davis officiating.
Burial followed in the New Ponce De Leon Cemetery.
