Paul Block was born on March 15, 1915, near Denison, Iowa, the son of Fritz and
Emma Loewe Block. He died April 18, 1981 at the University of Neb. Medical
Center, Omaha, Neb., at the age of 66. Paul spent his early years on a family
farm. He received his formal education in the rural schools near his home.
On Feb. 3, 1939, Paul was united in marriage to Arlene Janssen at Buck Grove.
They made their home on the farm where Paul was raised. Paul was baptized and
later confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. He has been a long time
member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Goldon K's.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by one granddaughter in
infancy and one brother, Henry in infancy.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene of Denison, three daughters, Irma, Mrs. Orrin
Plagmann of Harlan, Pauline, Mrs. Bryon Meeves of Denison and Linda, Mrs.
Kenneth Werkmeister of Sac City. Also by seven grandchildren, one brother
Meinhardt of Denison, two step-brothers, Vernon Beermann of Colorado and Carl
Beermann of Denison and two step-sisters, Mrs. Leona Johnannsen of Minneapolis
and Mrs. Frieda Sonichsen of Denison.
Funeral services were held April 21 at 10:30 a.m. at. the Zion Lutheran Church,
Denison. Burial was in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens. The Rev. Jack Heck
officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Herschel Gabrielsen, Howard Holmes,
Lester Anderson, Vernon Neumann, Robert Arnold and John Shields.
