Jane was the daughter of John & Mary Pettengell Sampson. On 09 Feb 1838, she became the first wife of Edmond Abraham Fox. Together, they became the parents of 8 children-Mary (Turner), Sarah, George Washington, Luticia (Rinehart), John, Susannah (died young), Jesse, and Eli.

She and son Jesse are buried side-by-side in the Collins Chapel Cemetery while her husband is buried next to his 2nd wife in the Mt Tabor Cemetery.
