Hugh, son of Hugh and Polly Caldwell was born in Garrard Co. Ky. 28 Feb. 1802. The birthdate is from his tombstone. A daughter, Sarah Ann, indicated at the time of her marriage that her father was born in Garrard and her mother was born in Lincoln.
He married Charity Barnett on 20 Oct. 1820. Their children were Henry William, (m. Lucinda Reynolds), E.B.,(m. Elizabeth Meyers), Milley M. (m. Daniel Skidmore), Mary Virginia (m. Nelson Perry Singleton), and Charlotte (m. Eddy Barnett).
Second, Hugh married Mary Reynolds, daughter of Perry Green Magness Reynolds and Nancy Singleton, 12 Oct. 1833. They had nine children, Elizabeth (m. Hardin Singleton), John H. (m. America Singleton), William W. (m. Emily H. Singleton), Hugh Huffman (m. Viletha Surber) Susan H. (m. James Nelson Reynolds), Commodore G. Perry (m. Martha Ann Onstott), Sarah Ann (m. James M. Gooch), Ermine and Cynthia (m. Daniel Webster Caldwell.
The land of Hugh and Mary is located at the forks of present day North Fishing Creek Road and South Fishing Creek Road about a mile west of Waynesburg.
Hugh was buried on his farm in the "Hugh Caldwell Family Graveyard". The stones are lying flat. One large stone is next to the grave of Hugh, but the inscription has been obliterated by time. Mary is probably buried alongside of Hugh. Eddy Barnett and Hugh's first wife, Charity, could possibly be buried there. When Commodore's heirs sold the land in 1915, the deed reserved the graveyard.
