Wilma L. Poat, 85 of Red Carpet Health Care Center, formerly of Byesville, died Sunday (Nov. 17, 1996) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center. She was born May 11, 1911, in Indiana, daughter of the late Oscar Clyde and Laura Lenora Gregg Shearer. She was a former owner of Lone Elm Restaurant in Ava. She was a member of Harmony Christian Church and a charter member of Golden Sixties, Byesville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Poat, in 1978; two brothers, Vernon and Clyde Shearer; three sisters, Vera Braun, Ruth Erkine and Mildred "June" Leslie. She leaves a sister, Mrs. Jim (Leah Barnett) Wright of Cumberland; a sister-in-law, Lovella Shearer of Derwent; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at McGaughy-Black Funeral Home, Byesville, where services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Raymond Grudier officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery.
