William Frederick Vogel, one of the old-time and well-known residents
of the town of Schleswig, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday
afternoon at the home of his son Herman in the town of Schleswig, where
he made his home. A stroke of paralysis was the cause of death. Mr. Vogel
was born in Pommerania, Germany, January 5th, 1845, and immigrated to
America as a young man in 1867, coming to the town of Mosel, Sheboygan
county. In 1868, he was married to Wilhelmina Dahlmann in the town of
Sheboygan, and in the fall of the same year the couple settled in the
town of Schleswig, where Mr. Vogel has since resided. In 1917 his wife
died and since then he has been living with his son Herman on the old
homestead. Mr. Vogel was one of the sturdy German pioneers of this
section and always enjoyed good health until about four months ago, when
he began to fail, and 12 days ago he suffered a paralytic stroke, which
affected the right side of his body and eventually caused his death. He
reached the advanced age of 79 years, 2 months, and 17 days, and is
survived by four sons, Frank of Milwaukee, William of Waldo, Fred. of
Steinthal, and Herman of the old homestead. Also 13 grandchildren survive
him. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30, from the house,
with burial in the Rockville cemetery, Rev. Kuether of Louis Corners
officiated.
