Curtis R. "Rudy" Jennings of Roanoke, Va., loving son and brother, devoted husband, beloved father, and a friend to everyone he met, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at the age of 61. He was a 1965 graduate of William Campbell High School, Campbell County, Va., and a 1970 graduate of Virginia Tech with a bachelors degree in architecture. He was a member of Colonial Avenue Baptist Church, Rotary Club of the Roanoke Valley and the Blue Ridge Chapter of AIA. He was a Senior Vice President of SFCS Inc., Architecture, Engineering, Planning and Interiors. He was devoted to the firm, its employees and its clients, who he regarded as friends, for the last 39 years. He loved living at his home overlooking the Roanoke Valley which he called his heaven, walking in search of wildlife on his property, fishing, or just sitting on his porch swing custom designed by his son, Curtis.
He was preceded in death by his much loved parents, who taught him his deep rooted values, Curtis R. Jennings Sr. and Eva Claybrook Jennings, of Naruna, Va.; and recently deceased, his father-in-law, Leroy O. Gillette, of Lancaster, Pa. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Barbara; his three children who gave him unending joy and to whom he passed on his love of architecture, Curtis R. III, fifth year architecture student at the University of Tennessee, Jane A., third year architecture student at Virginia Tech, and John W., second year architecture student at Virginia Tech. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Emily and Vernon B. Wallace, of Naruna, Va.; nephew, Ken Wallace, his children, Kelsey and Christin; nephew and wife, V. Bruce and Penny Wallace, their children, Robert and Emily Anne; his mother-in-law, Jane A. Gillette, of Lancaster, Pa.; brother-in-law and his wife, Kirk and Dianne Gillette, of St. Charles, Ill., their children, Matthew Gillette, his wife, Amanda Courtney Gillette, her daughter, Kendra; brother-in-law and his wife, Tom and Margarete Gillette, of Earlysville, Va., their children, Jason Gillette, Josh Gillette, and Ellie Gillette Conrad and her husband, Hayden; and brother-in-law and his wife, Bill and Janice Gillette, of Lancaster, Pa., their children, Hilary, Michelle and Stephen. He also leaves behind many other extended family members and life-long friends.

Visitation will be held at Colonial Avenue Baptist Church, 4165 Colonial Ave., on Thursday, February 12, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2009, at Colonial Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Scott officiating. Graveside service will be held at the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery at 267 Ebenezer Road, Gladys, Va., between and 4 and 5 p.m. on Friday February 13, 2009.
