Graveside Rites Held for Former Thayne Resident
A graveside service was held Tuesday morning, Sept 18 at the Thayne Cemetery for Lila Moultrie Godfrey, who died Sept 11 at Canoga Park, Calif.
Lila was born Feb 1, 1900, at Thayne, Wyo., the fifth of six children born to William and Lovisa Wright Moultrie. She attended elementary school in Thayne, Wyo.
On June 2, 1924 she was married to Rulon Godfrey in Nampa, Idaho and two days later their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. A year later they were blessed with a baby daughter, Verla, who died in infancy.
Rulon and Lila moved to Salt Lake City where they lived for 20 years. They moved again and Rulon worked on the Hoover dam for three years. They then moved back to Salt Lake city for a time and then to Spokane, Wash., where they lived for six years. In 1952 they moved to Los Angeles where they resided at the time of Lila's death.
Lila was an ardent worker in the LDS Church. She received a service award for 32 years of service as a Primary teacher; was secretary of the Relief Society while in Spokane; and was a Relief society visiting teacher all the years of her married life. She has also served four stake missions and was a temple worker in the Mesa and Los Angeles Temples. She still held this position when she had a stroke on Oct 4, 1972, after which her husband retired from his job and spent all of his time taking care of her. She spent 187 days of the past year in the hospital.
She is survived by her husband, Rulon Godfrey, Canoga Park Calif., one daughter, Mrs Dennis (Valerie Jean) Clark, Seattle, Wash., and one brother, Frank Moultrie, Salmon, Idaho.
