ATHENS, LA - Funeral services for Mrs. Jeri Smith Buckner, 83, of Athens, LA, will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 28, 2003 in the chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home of Arcadia, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Steven Spurlock, assisted by Bro. Tommy Davidson. Burial will be at Mt. Mariah Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home of Arcadia.

Mrs. Buckner died March 26, 2003 in the Homer Memorial Hospital following a short illness.

Mrs. Buckner was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Elbert I. Buckner; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Smith; and one sister, Audrey McCollum.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Hudson and husband, Larry of Shreveport, LA, Elaine Robertson of Minden, LA; and one son, Buzzy Buckner and wife, Judy of Athens, LA.

"Nana" had seven grandchildren who truly loved and adored her, Colleen Durrett and husband Tony, Melinda Rodgers and husband Jason, Jessica Robertson, Lance Hudson, Leah Hudson, Zack Buckner and Katie Buckner. There are three great-grandchildren, Gunner Durrett, Christopher Rodgers and Cameron Rodgers. Mrs. Buckner has two sisters, Vernie Rallinson of Bastrop, LA and Wilba Ann Williams and husband, Eugene of Bernice, LA. There are numerous nieces and nephews.

"Miss Jeri" was a member of the Athens United Methodist Church where she was involved with Bible School and United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Homer Country Club and Athens Garden Club. She enjoyed playing Bridge and Scrabble with her friends. Miss Jeri had a love of life for her family and friends of all ages.

Pallbearers will be Lance Hudson, Zack Buckner, Tony Durrett, Jason Rodgers, Alan Williams, Gary Williams, Bobby Rallinson, and Bucky Hemphill. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Edwards, Jack Spurlock, Duffy Gandy, Freddie Spigener, Dr. Ray Spurlock, Matthew Moyer and Chuck Mulhearn.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to the Jeri Buckner Memorial, Athens United Methodist Church, c-o Freddie Spigener, 14781 Hwy 9, Athens, LA 71003.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2003 at the Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia, LA.
