Verna L. Gridley passed away peacefully on Monday, February 9, 2009 at the home of her son, Roger Gridley, where she spent the last year of her life.

She was born March 2, 1921 in Rigby, Idaho and was a graduate of the Rigby High School, Class of 1938.

She married John Calvert Gridley in Reno, Nevada in 1942. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple on May 28, 1947. They had six children, Tom (Carla), Roger (Marcia), Susan Broome (Ken), Rex (Judy), Bonnie Plucinik (Allan), Linda Armstrong (George). The family moved several times and lived in Downey, California; Provo, Utah; Pendleton, Oregon; Pocatello, Idaho; before moving to Salt Lake City, Utah.

Verna was employed at St. Anthony Hospital in Pocatello, Idaho as Head Bookkeeper for many years before moving to Utah where she continued working as a bookkeeper. She enjoyed helping family members and friends balance their own books. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She enjoyed family nights playing card and board games, and word puzzles. She loved bowling and enjoyed Saturday bowling outings with her family.

She had three sons and one daughter serve missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She also funded missions for several grandchildren and others. She took pleasure knowing she was helping to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and felt that was the reason she was blessed with such a long life. She served as a Relief Society President and Sunday School Secretary. She was preceded in death by her husband Calvert in 1987 and her son Tom in 1998.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Meadow Ward Chapel, 1955 West 400 North, Salt Lake City, Utah, with a visitation on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, East Millcreek and also one hour prior to the services on Friday.
Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
