Rev. Dr. LaFayette Congdon was the son of Phineas Spring and Julia Ette (Thatcher) Congdon. He was the husband of Frances Anna (Kingsley) Congdon. They were married September 20, 1870. Frances died January 29, 1931. Rev. Congdon was a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church: East Genesee Conference 1867 F 1869 Genesee (Western New York/now Upper New York) Conference by change of boundaries 1872 East Genesee Conference at reorganization and to Genesee Conference by consolidation 1876 Central New York Conference by change of boundaries 1880 Genesee Conference by transfer 1891. He was President of Genesee Wesleyan Seminary (later became Syracuse University) 19O4-1913. He served during the Civil War. He died of uremic poisoning.
