Biography - Kindness was born in Green County, Tennessee to Azariah Haines and Polly Ann Drain. Her family moved when she was age 3 months Sep 1830 to Centerville, South of Dayton, Ohio. Her two sisters helped fell timber and farmed in Ohio.

While there the LDS missionaries made their home with them while they labored there. They taught her family. Joseph T. Ball baptized her family sometime after Joseph Smith was killed in 1844.Her mother died in Ohio after getting baptized. Apparently her father went to Nauvoo, and then returned to Ohio, because she ran away from home in Nauvoo to go to Salt Lake City with the first pioneer company in 1847. She stopped at Winter Quarters and worked there until 1852.

She married a Mr Johnson, who left her in Nauvoo for 2 years, but she never stayed with him after seeing him in Salt Lake with another woman.

She married John C Badger but divorced, and later married William Addington Martindale. Lived in Duncan's Retreat where her daughter Kindness Badger met Joseph Alma Wright.

She outlived all her husbands, and lived with her son in Delta and her daughter in Salt Lake. She died of pneumonia at the age of 98, eight days after fracturing her leg, at a hospital in Salt Lake.
