DEATH CLAIMS PIONEER, 87;
TREKKED TO HOLE-IN-ROCK

Mrs. Anna Lillian Decker Wood, 87, 245 Modern Ct. (640 East), one of the original "Hole-in-the-Rock" pioneers, died Thursday at 6:30 a.m. of causes incident to age.
She was one of a group sent by Brigham Young, second president, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to colonize what is now San Juan County and "make friends with the Indians" in 1879.
Mrs. Wood was at one time San Juan superintendent of schools.
Known to friends as "Aunt Lilly," she was very active in the LDS Church.
She was born Nov. 13, 1875, in Parowan, Iron County, daughter of James B. and Ann Mickelson Decker. She was married to Joseph Henry Wood Dec. 17, 1902, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died July 1, 1942.
Survivors include sons, daughters, Joseph Earl, Berkeley, Calif.; Dr. Mark D., Denver; Francis (Frank) Clair, Merrill James, Mrs. Reed (Josephine) Fairbanks, and Mrs. Robert (Anna Bernice) Leggat, Salt Lake City; Clark Marden, Seattle, Wash.
Also surviving are brothers, sisters, James B., Santa Maria, Calif.; J. Elmer, Breen, Colo.; Claude A., La Plata, N.M.; and Jennie, Salt Lake City.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday noon, 255-2nd East, where friends may call Sunday, 7-9 p.m., and Monday prior to services. Burial will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
