Russell G Benedict, son of Ellis F Benedict and Effie May Hayes, was born on a farm in Atchison County, Missouri. He married Ruth M Barrett on 10 Oct 1934. This marriage was unique in that three Benedict brothers married three Barrett sisters.

Russell and Ruth had two known children: Emilie (Schneider) and Russell Dean (who died in infancy). Russell and Ruth lived in Shenandoah, Iowa, all their lives.

Russell died at a hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 79 years. Ruth died in 1999 at the age of 86 years.
