He was one of the oldest residents of county. The Armer family came to Gila County in 1878, and located in upper Salt River valley, where they lived continuously. He was a successful farmer, and the Armer homestead became one of the most productive farms in the valley. Being on the main traveled road of the county, Armer's was a stopping place for travelers to and from the Tonto Basin. All who were worthy found the latch string always out. Although he was thought to be eccentric in some ways, he was a man of sterling qualities and a good citizen. He died at his home, six miles above the Roosevelt Dam.
