Jessie Floyd Sumner, 69, born 22 Oct 1906, of Route 1, Hortense, passed away Thursday night, 18 Mar 1976, at Glynn-Brunswick Memorial Hospital in Brunswick, following a lengthy illness.

A native of Tift County, he was the son of the late William C. Sumner and Mary Lilly Green Sumner. He was a Baptist. He worked in landscaping. He resided for a number of years in Glynn County and had been a resident of the Atkinson Community for the past eight years.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Baldree Sumner; seven daughters, Marie Crosby of Sumter, SC, Josephine Beaver, Diane LaMontague, and Jean McCarty, all of Brunswick, Fay Rewis and Mrs. Carliss Hickox, both of Alma, Martha Nay of Conyers, Mrs. Nick Watson of Ellington, Katie Smith of Atlanta, and Mrs. A. J. Connell of Lakeland, FL; three brothers, Eddie Sumner of Sparks, Howard Sumner of Nahunta, and Orba Sumner of Brunswick; 28 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren, and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Mar. 22, from Atkinson Baptist Church with Rev. Jerome Lewis officiating.

Interment was in Hortense Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Raiford L. Pierce, Gerald Hickox, Gary Goss, D. E. McKinzie, W. A. Sumner, Bob Boyne, Bill Hickox and Denise Middleton.

Chambless Funeral Home of Nahunta was in charge of arrangements.
