Served in McAllister's Battery, 10th IL US Infantry and also Co. D, 100th IL US Infantry. His brother, Wade Jacobs, also served in McAllister's Battery, dying in service at Cairo, IL. They were the sons of William and Maria Jacobs. Louden was one of the last survivors of the army that accompanied Sherman on his famous march to the sea. Three weeks prior to his death, he moved to the Soldier's Home in Danville, IL.
