Monday afternoon George W. Halderbaum, a well known resident of Troy township lost his life in the woods by being struck by a falling tree. He was killed instantly and his body was badly mangled.
The deceased was born in Holmes county, Ohio February 18, 1842 and at his death was 57 years, 11 months and 11 days of age. He came to Troy township with his parents in the early 50's. On August 11, 1862, at the age of 19, he enlisted in Co. K. 88th Ind. Vol. Inf. and he served his country until June 1865, when he received an honorable discharge. He was married May 6, 1867 to Mary Shoemaker and they were the parents of two sons and a daughter. He divided his time between selling agricultural implements and farming.
