Eugene Stephens (1941-2009)

Eugene Stephens, 68, of Grayson, Ky., passed away Thursday, Feb. 6, 2009, in King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.

Mr. Stephens was born Jan. 25, 1941, in Elliott County, the son of the late Chester and Nellie Barker Stephens. He was also preceded in death by a son, Rodney Stephens.

Eugene was a Christian and attended Wilson Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He retired from Farm Credit Services, formerly Production Credit on Oct. 31, 2003, after 35 years of service. He was also a Kentucky colonel.

Gene is survived by two grandsons, Nathan Stephens of Blaine, Ky., and Tyler Stephens of Grayson; two great-grandchildren, Taylor RaShae and Jordan Page Stephens, along with a special friend, Brenda Burchett of Grayson; two brothers, Charles Stephens of Sandy Hook, Ky., and Edward Lee Stephens of Grayson; one sister, Joyce Knight of Dayton, Ohio; a half brother, Lloyd Barker of Flatwoods, Ky.; along with a host of extended family and friends who will mourn his passing.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009 at the Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook with Brothers David Boggs and Mike Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Elliott County Memory Gardens.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association, Bluegrass Region Chapter at 1636 Nicholasville Road, Suite 1, Lexington, Ky.
