Dr. Stanley E. McGough, 81, of Spray died Oct. 12.
A graveside service was held at the Mortimer Ranch in Mitchell. A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Spray High School gym, followed by a potluck reception.
He was born Jan. 22, 1921, in Wenatchee, Wash., and left home at age 15. He graduated from high school in Walla Walla in 1938, then attended Whitman College and Washington State University, where he completed his bachelor's degree. He received his doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1951.
Mr. McGough served in the United States Navy 1942-46 as a pilot during World War II, then volunteered for the Navy Reserves.
In 1951, he began veterinary work in Baker City and practiced in Pendleton for many years. He was employed as a Department of Agriculture veterinarian in four Northeast Oregon counties, where he was known as a country veterinarian and horse doctor.
Mr. McGough is survived by his daughters, Merrilee Howell of Kenmore, Wash., Melody Graham of Port Orchard, Wash., and Janet Fulton of Jeffersonville, Ind.; grandchildren Jonathan Stanley Howell of Seattle, Wash., Rachel Howell of Spokane, Wash., and Gabriel Graham of Port Orchard, Wash.; and faithful friend, Elva Dell McGough of Spray.
