Son of Aaron and Sarah Newell MARTIN. Husband of Abigail CHENEY. Children: Zeruiah "Sophia", Walter, Sarah, Abigail, Elizabeth, and Mary.

Col. Adam MARTIN of Sturbridge, Mass. (an older brother of Moses, who settled at Fitch's Point about 1768). Was an officer in the French and Indian War. During the Revolutionary War he served as a Captain of one of the Massachusetts Companies in the Continental Army. He was Captain in Colonel Bigelow's 15th MA Regiment and then joined Glover's Brigade August 18, 1777 and remained until the surrender of Burgoyne.

At the close of the war he removed to Salem, and in the company of his son, Brig. General Walter MARTIN at Fitch's Point he erected the large dwelling house and tavern. In 1795, they sold out to Dr. Asa FITCH and Walter, kept a store in Salem Village; and having purchased a township (Martinsburg) in Lewis County, they removed in 1803. The children of Col. Adam Martin were: Zerviah MARTIN who married Silas CONKEY, Hon. Walter MARTIN, Sarah MARTIN who married Chillus DOTY, Abigail MARTIN married Dr. Asa FITCH, Elizabeth MARTIN married Andrew FREEMAN.
