1st Lieutenant Dennis E. Hinton was killed in action while acting as Commanding Officer of "A" Company, 1st Battalion (Mechanized), 50th Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade, as they were overrun by North Vietnamese Army Forces on May 5th, 1968, at An Bao, Binh Dinh Province, in the coastal central highlands of the former Republic of South Vietnam.

The Association of the 1st Battalion, 50th Infantry would appreciate contact from anyone who was related to or knew 1LT Hinton. We would particularly appreciate a better photo of LT Hinton.

Lieutenant Hinton was a previously decorated combat veteran…having been awarded a Valorous Bronze Star for action at the outset of the Battle of Tam Quan in December of 1967.

He was also awarded a Bronze Star for Valor for actions during the Battle of Trung Thanh on January 23, 1968.

Finally, he was awarded a Posthumous Meritorious Bronze Star for the Battle in which he was killed in action.
