Born on April 7, 1918, Barbara went to be with our Lord Jesus on January 28, 2009. “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:23)

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn Mitchell Peltier; son, Leo; sister, Esther Bingham; sister-in-law, Margaret Keillor; grandchildren, Gena Johnson and Karen Webb; and nieces, Alice Mae Woodrum and Sally Morrill.

She married Wilburn in 1941. Over the next 19 years, she and Wilburn graced the world with 12 children. When Wilburn died in 1969, she still had five children at home. As a strong and persistent mother, she often told her children, “When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.” Her entire family will fondly remember that and many of her other unique euphemisms.

She was a constant example of perseverance and steadfastness, taking the initiative to fill any need that she saw. Everyone who knew her recognized how much she loved God, her family and her country.

From the time she graduated from college and moved to Danbury, she was a devoted educator, serving the Danbury ISD as a member of the school board, a teacher and librarian until she retired in 1983. After retirement through 2000, she continued teaching and serving as librarian at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.

She also cared greatly for her community and church, serving for many years in the St. Anthony’s Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary and Brazoria County Extension Club. She was a charter member of the Court Immaculate Mary 2134, Angleton-Danbury, Texas.

She is survived by Peter Peltier and wife, Maureen (four children and nine grandchildren), Katherine (Kay) Webb and husband, Ray (seven children and 10 grandchildren), Louis Peltier and wife, Valerie (five children and nine grandchildren), Kenneth Peltier and wife, Mary, (four children), John Peltier and wife, Janie (three children), Rebecca (Becky) Branham and husband, Bill (three children), Stephen Peltier and wife, Paula (four children and one grandchild), Paul Peltier and wife, Naomi (two children), Arthur Peltier and wife, Susan (four children), Richard Peltier and wife, Elaine (three children) and Mary (Molly) Garcia (three children and one grandchild); and her brother, Peter T. Keillor.

Known by many names throughout her life — daughter, sister, wife, Mom, Granny, teacher, friend and aunt — she leaves a living legacy in the hearts of each life she touched.

Celebration of Life services will be Friday, January 30, 2008, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Danbury at 5:00 p.m., followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, January 31, at 9:30 a.m., also at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Danbury.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace School, Clute, Texas, or a charity of your choice.
