Donald Olin Plyler

Newton, N.C. - Donald Olin Plyler, 49, of Newton, passed away Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley.

Born Aug. 12, 1959, in Columbus, Ga., he was the son of Olin F. Plyler Jr. and the late Melba Jean Potts Plyler.

He was a member of Fairgrove Baptist Church in Hickory and was a maintenance supervisor with Carolina Container of Hickory. CSM Donald Plyler served in the U.S. Army from 1975 to 1985 and also in the National Guard from 1987 to 2007. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. Post 2889 of Rock Hill, S.C.

Donald really loved life, was a great husband and loving father, son, brother and friend to so many. He will be truly missed.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Catawba Valley Medical Center and Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley for the loving care Donald and the family received during his illness.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lisa Gale Plyler.

He is survived by wife, Margaret Hill Plyler of the home; a daughter, Linda P. Price and her husband, Erik, of Rock Hill, S.C.; two sons, the Rev. Jay Wright and his wife, Candice, and Joshua O. Plyler and his wife, Laurie, all of Rock Hill, S.C.; father, Olin Flow Plyler Jr. of Catawba, S.C.; a brother, Arthur "Terry" Plyler and his wife, Robyn, of Lancaster, S.C.; two grandchildren, Jadyn Wright and Allison Price; the mother of his children, Tosha Plyler of Rock Hill, S.C.; stepmother, Earlene Plyler of Catawba, S.C.; two stepbrothers, Jerry Craig and Tommy Craig, all of Rock Hill, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, at Burke Mortuary chapel in Newton, with the Revs. Bobby Langston and Jay Wright officiating.

Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery in Newton.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. tonight, Saturday, at Burke Mortuary in Newton. Memorials may be made to Fairgrove Baptist Church, 1614 U.S. 70A, West, Hickory, N.C. 28601.
