He was the son of William Arnold and Mary "Polly" Ann(Brown) Arnold. Harrison came to Georgia at an early age, probably w/his family in the early 1820s. He married Rebecca Ferguson in about 1827 in Gwinnett County, Georgia. They were parents of 8 known children and possibly as many as 13.
