Born in Horry County, South Carolina on September 3, 1935, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Mary Roberts Tyler.
Survivors include her loving husband of 50 years, James A. Godwin, and their three children, Janesta Godwin, Joseph Godwin (Debbie), and Kimberly Goode (Terry), all of Charlotte; three grandsons, Joseph, Jeremy, and Justin Godwin; three sisters, Grace Tyler and Louvenia Fowler, both of Loris, SC and Zelda Cline of Charlotte; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Kings Business College in Charlotte, she was a retired executive secretary for Bank of America. She was an active member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church and the Unity Sunday School class. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved and enjoyed family and friends, she was known wherever she worked and served by her delicious cooking, especially the many and varied cakes that she so generously shared.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, January 30 at McEwen Charlotte Chapel, 5716 Monroe Road with Rev. John Harrill officiating. Burial will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.
