John C. Abbe was born 26 Mar 1842 in Monroe Co., AL. He served in the Civil War with the 17th LA Regiment as a Cpl. He enlisted 10 Sep 1861 in Caldwell Parish, LA. He was captured at Vicksburg, MS. He surrendered 26 May 1865 at New Orleans, LA, paroled 12 Jun 1865 at Monroe, LA. He applied for Pension #30423 on 4 May 1912 when he was 70 years old and had been in the county for 46 years. He lived near Martin's Mill. His wife was M.C. who was buried at Hillcrest Cemetery. He died 11 Dec 1920 and was buried at Holly Springs Cemetery near Martin's Mill. There are some indications that M.C. or M.S.I. (Mrs. John C. Abbe) applied for a widow's pension but it was rejected. She applied again for Widow's Pension #45270. There is also indications that both John C. and his wife lived in the Old Confederate's Home for a time.
