Andrew homesteaded near Mahalia (Pleasant Valley Community) and taught school for a term. The hardware store, which also housed the undertaking business, was the first business started in Pleasanton and Andrew was manager and undertaker. Andrew and his brother, Morris, opened a blacksmilth shop which they sold to Charlie Gravely in 1895. Andrew also helped start the Pleasanton State Bank of which he was president.
Andrew organized a county baseball league about 1920, patterned on the major leagues with proper uniforms and a big time name. Pleasanton won the pennant the first year with John Franke as the star pitcher.
Andrew, Dr. Randall, brother Marshall, Ray Scribner and friends built a small gofl course west of town. The same gang went to Kearney regularly for a game on the County Club links and on one outing Andrew prodly scored a hole-in-one.
Andrew could also sing and a quartet was formed with Bertha, Mrs. Legate (wife of the depot agent), and Sam Brown a farmer. They were in much demand for funerals and other occasions.
