She was born Feb. 11, 1915, in Bible Grove, the daughter of Steven and Maggie Shelton Jennings. She married Delbert R. Turner Sr. on July 11, 1936; he preceded her in death on July 8, 1985.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Doris Ellen Turner; a son, William Bernard Turner; a sister, Beulah Colclasure; and four brothers, Earl, Charles, Lester and Everett Jennings.
She is survived by a son, Ralph (wife, Janet) Turner of Springfield; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Ollie Greenwood of Nobel, Maxine Read of Iuka, Darlene Sopher of Sandoval, Rosalie Henson, Sandra Oswald and Karen Hodge, all of Iuka and Lula Belle Clark of Florida; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jessie was a resident of Springfield since 2001. She lived in Louisville for 20 years and she also lived in Decatur. She retired from Shoppers World Discount Stores. She was of the Methodist Faith.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Clay City, with Chaplain Howard Shockey officiating. Burial will be at Clay City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Jessie's name to the Alzheimer's Association, 2921 Greenbriar Drive, Ste. C Springfield, IL 62704.
