Mormon Battalion soldier, U.S. Army, War with Mexico, 1846 to 1848. Company C Musician, under the command of Captain James Brown.

Son of Samuel Russell Allen and Sarah (Sally) Jane Powers. One of seventeen children. Married Sarah Beriah Fiske, daughter of Varnum Fisk and Sarah (Sally) Bates Eames, 25 December 1837 at Madrid, St. Lawrence, New York. (She later married Joel Sr. Ricks, settled in the Cache Valley and is buried at Logan City Cemetery, Cache, Utah.)

Ezra was father of four children before his murder at Tragedy Spring, El Dorado, California while scouting for the Browett-Holmes Company of soldiers returning to Utah after discarge from the U.S. Army.
