HUMBOLDT - Martin Henry Christian Bulk, 93, Humboldt, died Thursday, March 23, 2006, at Pinecrest Nursing Home.
He was born July 26, 1912, in Woodson County west of Humboldt, the son of Henry F.C. and Mary Stange Bulk. He grew up and attended school in Humboldt, graduating from Humboldt High School in 1930.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from March 1, 1942 to Oct. 25, 1945, in the European Theatre.
He worked for Grange Supply House, then became co-owner of the business in 1947 and renamed it Humboldt Hardware. Eventually he and his wife purchased the business, from which he retired in October 1990.
He was a lifetime member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Humboldt, where he served as treasurer for a number of years. He served on the Humboldt Fire Department and was Humboldt city treasurer for 47 years.
On Dec. 27, 1950, he married Erna Saving in Humboldt. She died June 6, 1997.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Mary Bulk, Humboldt; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Kent Anschutz, Topeka; and six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his twin sister, Martha; another sister, Elizabeth Bulk; and a brother, Arthur Bulk.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church led by the Rev. David Meier. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery with military honors conducted by Cecil J. Meeker Post #1654 VFW.
