Carl Gottfried Christian Rabenaldt was born 7 Aug. 1826 in Wolferstedt, Province of Saxony, Germany, to Johann Wilhelm and Wilhelmine Susanna (Goldschmidt) Rabenaldt. According to Evangelical Lutheran Church records, he lived in House #28 in Wolferstedt from the year 1848 to the middle of the 1850's, and was a shoemaker. On another occasion he lived in House #70 and was a land guard (land constable or keeper).
On 25 Dec. 1853 Carl married Henriette Caroline Amalie (called Amalie) Schmidt in the State Church in Weimar, Thuringia, Germany. They had at least seven children, including Therese Jacobine Helene Rabenaldt, who was born 28 Feb. 1857 in Wolferstedt, Province of Saxony. Carl & Amalie Rabenaldt, along with their son Edmund and their daughter Therese and her husband Ernst Kuemmel, and the Kuemmels' two sons, Paul and Karl Otto, emigrated from the Port of Hamburg, Germany to New York on the ship "California," arriving on 16 Nov. 1885. Their destination on the passenger list was given as Schulenburg, TX, but if in fact they went to Schulenburg, they did not live there long, for by 1886 they were in Wied in Lavaca Co., TX.
The Rabenaldts and Kuemmels finally made their home in Gruenau, near Yorktown, in DeWitt Co., TX, where they made their living as farmers. The Rabenaldt and Kuemmel families were among the first settlers of Gruenau, according to Therese Kuemmel's obituary in "The Yorktown News." Carl Rabenaldt died ca. 1900 and is buried in Sandy Gate Cemetery, near Nopal, DeWitt Co., TX. After his death, his wife Amalie (Schmidt) Rabenaldt returned to Germany, where she died on 17 Nov. 1907.
