Postville -- Death of Postville Pioneer

Neighbors and friends were grieved to learn of the death of George N. Lamb, who passed away Thursday afternoon, March 9, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. E. Hoare, at Monroe, with whom he had been making his home the past year. His illness was only of a few weeks' duration.

George Newton Lamb was born December 5, 1846, at Fairview, Fulton county, Illinois. In September, 1869, he emigrated from Illinois and settled on the homestead in Postville neighborhood where he has since made his home.

On February 5, 1870, he was married to Miss Anna Burrows, who preceded him in death May 7, 1899. To this union were born ten children -- Ollie, who died in infancy; Mrs. J. E. Dyer, of Bakersfield, Cal.; Dr. H. E. Lamb and Mrs. D. W. McCombs, of Gooding, Ida.; Dr. A. N. Lamb, A. W. and F. P. Lamb, of Albion; Mrs. A. E. Hoare and Mrs. T. J. Evans, of Monroe, and Mrs. Wm. Meyer, of Platte Center.

All the surviving children were at his bedside when death came with exception of Mrs. Dyer and Mrs. McCombs, who were unable to come.

Besides his children he leaves twenty-two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two brothers, J. M. Lamb of Goodland, Kan., and J. A. Lamb, of Shrag, Wash.; and three sisters, Mrs. S. E. McGuire and Mrs. M. E. Smith, of London Mills, Ill., and Mrs. Emma Woodhouse, of Stevenson, Cal.

Funeral services were held at the family home Sunday afternoon, with Rev. Aston, of Monroe, officiating, and burial was made in the Thomazin cemetery. The pallbearers were Max Bruckner, Lew Hoare, Gus Loseke, Will Loseke, John Borchers and Chris L. Martensen.

The esteem in which Mr. Lamb was held by his many friends was shown by the extremely large crowd that gathered to pay their last respects, and the beautiful floral offerings. Sympathy is extended the bereaved family.
