Cody Wayne Lindley, 16, of Silver City passed away Sunday morning after was reportedly stepped on by a bull at the EBY Ranch near Faywood. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Lindley of Silver City.
Lindley was practicing for a rodeo with some other youths at the time of the mishap.
The deceased was a native of Uvalde, Texas and had resided in Silver City for the past seven years where he was a student at Silver High School.
Other survivors besides his parents include two sisters, Mrs. Jody Donet of Phoenix, Arizona and Miss Becky Lindley of Silver City; one brother, Clayton M. Lindley of Silver City; a paternal grandfather, Frank Lindley of San Angelo, Texas; and a maternal grandmother, Mrs. L.A. Taylor of San Antonio, Texas.
Lindley was very active in rodeo and 4-H and was scheduled to travel to Las Cruces this week for livestock judging competition. He has been active in livestock judging for many years and went to the District 4-H Landing judging competition last year where his team finished first.
He was a member of the Packrats horse packing club and was active in Boy Scouts and Demolay.
At school he was an honor student, and took part in track, football, and basketball while at La Plata Junior High.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Curtis-Bright Funeral Chapel in Silver City. Rev. Clifford E. Hutton of the First United Methodist Church will officiate.
