Funeral services for D. Austin Stevens were conducted at 1 p.m. on Aug. 23, 2000, at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs. Interment was in the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Louis Stevens, Floyd Stevens, Brad Stevens, Scott Moore, Roy Dixon and Steve Adams.

Stevens, 101, of 1039 Scott Drive, Prescott, Ariz., died on Aug. 18, 2000, in Prescott.

A resident of Prescott at the Las Fuentes Resort Village for the past three years, he previously lived in Mesa.

He was born on Sept. 6, 1898 in Salina, Utah. At the age of 14, he moved with his family to Lucerne Valley, Utah, which was later the Manila, Linwood area in Daggett County, Utah. He was the son of the late David Edward and Kate Kenney Stevens.

His early schooling was in Salina, Utah, and briefly in the Linwood area. He worked on several ranches and married Lovina Jane Smith on June 16, 1921 in Manila. He became a successful rancher raising cattle, sheep and horses in the McKinnon-Burnt Fork area of Sweetwater County.

For several years, the family lived in Rock Springs, during the winter months before the ranch properties were sold in 1956. They sold their home in Rock Springs and retired to Mesa coming back to Wyoming during the summer months.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Their marriage was solemnized in the Mesa Temple, April 17, 1964. His pursuits included dancing, traveling, shuffleboarding and working on Quest Ranches a a wrangler and guide.

His first wife died Dec. 1, 1965. He married Violet Kennedy Walkenshaw Jan. 21, 1967, and they continued living in Mesa. She preceded him in death on Dec. 30, 1995, at the age of 100.

Stevens is survived by two sons, Thurman S. Stevens and wife Lorraine of Price, Utah, and Donald D. Stevens and wife Joanna of Pinedale and Prescott, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; one son, Calvin A. Stevens; five sisters, Ruth Spicer, Kate Wilde, LaVern Pickett, Vivian Powelson and Elizabeth Gamber; two brothers, Wilford Stevens and George Albert Stevens; and a grandson, Brent Edward Stevens.
