Blanche Amos Wood, 96, passed away March 18, 2015 at Hardy Wilson Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be 12:30pm-2pm Friday at Hazlehurst United Methodist Church. Services will be 2pm Friday at Hazlehurst United Methodist Church with burial at Hazlehurst Cemetery. Stringer Family Funeral Home in Hazlehurst is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Wood was born on April 23, 1918 to Paschal “Shoat” Amos and Mittie Lee Robertson Amos. She was a native and lifelong resident of Copiah County and a member of Hazlehurst United Methodist Church. She graduated from Hazlehurst High School where she was recognized as an All-star basketball player during her high school career. She remained an avid sports fan throughout her long life.
Mrs. Wood married Claude S. Wood, Jr. on July 4, 1935. They were married for 42 years prior to his death in 1977. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Davis.
She is survived by daughters, Barbara Ann Wise (Robert) of Plano, TX and Delia Wood of Hazlehurst; sons, C. S. (Bubba) Wood, III (Babs) and Ronald A. Wood, Sr. all of Hazlehurst; grandchildren, Teri Lynam, Robert Sandifer Wise, Chris Viramontez, Dona Pell, Brandi Gremillion, Ronald Allen Wood, Jr., Julia Puryear Wood, Darryl Davis, and Dawn Ertle; 21 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Hazlehurst United Methodist Church Building Fund.
