ANOTHER PIONEER PASSES BEYOND
Grandma John Stumpp passed away at her home in Osmond Saturday morning Dec 17, 1938 after being sick just a short time.
Pneumonia was the cause and at her age, she was not able to withstand the sickness. She slipped peacefully away without suffering very much. She would have been 80 years old next June.
Mrs Stumpp was born and reared in Switzerland. She embraced the gospel of the Latter-day Saints in her native land and emigrated to Utah, where she lived about seven years before they moved to Star Valley in 1890 and took up a homestead where she has lived since.
Mr and Mrs John Stumpp had four children; John Jr., William, Mrs Annie Warren of Freedom and Mrs Kate Henderson of Smoot. She is also survived by several grandchildren.
Mrs Stumpp was one of the early pioneers and helped build up this farm and community. Sister Stumpp was a great lover of flowers and always making fine quilts and beautiful rugs. Always friendly and willing to help at anything she was able to do. She lived alone most of her late years, her sons have moved her back to the old homestead so they could better witch her and take good care of her. She was well provided for and everyone loved her.
Funeral services were held in Osmond church house, with a packed house, Tuesday December 20 at 1:00 p.m. Bishop Leslie Harrison presided and Leslie Erickson conducted.
Song--"The End of a Perfect Day" was sung by Madeline Hopkins and Ruby Chadwick. Prayer by Bp. Otto A. Harrison.
The first speaker, Hyrum Herschi spoke of the love and respect he had gained while visiting Sister Stumpp. The memories she had of her native land, the land where Mr Herschi had filled a mission. The second speaker James Gomm, said he was honored by having the privilege to speak of her good character, and related how different the laws are in Switzerland than America ahd hos grateful for the Gospel
