The town of Clayton, New Mexico was named after him in honor of his father.
His mother, had a sister Dora, and the town of Mount Dora, New Mexico was named after her.
The book "Union County And It's People" by Union County Historical Society 1980 pg 37 has the following concerning the town of Clayton, NM.
"Dorsey Mansion: Vast herds of Cattle common at the time of Clayton's official birth in the Fall of 1887 when the Clayton Town Company was organized by John C. Hill and the Senator Dorsey of Arkansas as the terminal for the Colorado and Southern Railroad. The town was named for Clayton C. Dorsey, Senator Dorsey's son. The Dorsey Mansion is now being restored for the public to visit".
The book "Not So Wild, The Old West" by Clara Toombs Harvey 1961 pg 140 has the following: " When the town was platted it was named for Senator Dorsey's only son, Clayton, who became a prominent attorney in Denver. He has been dead for several years and Mrs. Clayton Dorsey died at her Denver home a short time ago".
